Mattress Size

What bed size do you have? Bed size refers to the dimensions of width and length of your mattress. Knowing this will allow you to properly match your mattress size to a bedding size. Having proper sizing information is key to achieving the perfect look.

If you purchase a comforter that is smaller than your mattress size, for example, your bedding will fall short and the overall look of your bed will be uneven. You want to aim for a draped look that is not too long, nor too short. Ornamentation is also sold according to mattress size so make sure you properly measure and know its size.

It is also important to note that bed size measurements vary by country, who all have their own individual standards and terminologies. On top of that, mattress manufacturers also have their own levels of padding, support and slightly vary in dimensions. The following bedding sizes are set for Canadian and American standards.

size chart
Twin: 39” x 75”

Twin size beds are the smallest beds you can have. They are a popular choice for college dorms but are often too short for adult males. They are a go-to choice, however, if you're living alone, in a small space or just like tight quarters.

Full: 54” x 75”

Sometimes referred to as a double mattress this is a popular choice for teenagers and young adults, or for couples who love being close together.

Full XL: 54” x 80”

Very similar to the full or double, the full XL offers several more inches in length but remains 54 inches in width. This is usually the go-to option for taller teens.

Queen: 60” x 80”

This is the most popular mattress size today. The queen size mattress gives you an extra 6 inches in width and an extra 5 inches in length compared to the full and trust us, you’ll see the difference, especially for couples. Queen size is an excellent choice for small master bedrooms and the guest bedroom. It is also a great choice for single sleepers who enjoy extra space.

King: 76” x 80”

The king size mattress offers 18 inches of extra space compared to the queen. This is the best choice for couples who like their personal space, for families who love to all gather round in bed on weekend mornings, and for pet lovers who sleep with their furry friends. However, it is important to have proper support. Invest in a heavy duty box spring that will carry the weight of the mattress.

California King: 72” x 84”

The ruler of all mattresses, the California King, is 4 inches narrower but 4 inches longer than a regular king. Perfect for taller people who want to enjoy as much length as possible.
